Trial Begins for Man Accused of Killing Marion County Woman

The testimony begins in the trial of Dominique Brand who is accused of shooting 80 year old Mary Ann Elvington, resulting in her death. Brand allegedly kidnapped Elvington from her home in Nichols and forced her to drive to North Carolina at gunpoint. Elvington’s body was found in Marion, South Carolina. Prosecutors state Brand’s DNA was discovered inside and outside of Elvington’s car. However, a gun was never recovered by authorities. Brand chose to proceed to a bench trial over a jury trial. He is standing against a three count federal indictment with carjacking, use of firearm in violence, and kidnapping, all resulting in death of person.
