MYRTLE BEACH — A 17-year-old boy was recently arrested on a warrant for attempted murder, among other charges, after he allegedly shot someone with a handgun in Myrtle Beach.
Horry County police officers responded to the report of a shooting that occurred at a Myrtle Beach residence along Alexander Court around 3:45 p.m. Aug. 25.
At the scene, officers met a witness who claimed the suspect — a 17-year-old male from Garden City whose name has not been publicly released due to his juvenile status — had shot someone at the residence with a handgun. Though the witness did not see the shooting occur, he said he heard gunshots.
According to police, officers cleared the residence to ensure that no other victims or the suspect was inside. Additional officers responded to the area in an attempt to locate the suspect.
The victim of the shooting, who has not been identified by police, was later found at the Circle K gas station located on the corner of Holmestown Road and S.C. Highway 707.
According to police, the suspect shot the victim with a handgun. The extent of the victim’s injuries were not provided by police.
A warrant was issued by the Horry County Police Department. Later that day, Georgetown County Police deputies responded to a call at around 4:30 p.m. from Wahoos Fish House in the Murrells Inlet section of Georgetown.
At the scene, deputies located the teenager at the restaurant, which was his place of employment, and he was arrested in connection with the charges of assault or attempted murder; the sale or delivery of a pistol to, and possession by, certain persons unlawful; and the possession of weapons during a violent crime.
After he was arrested, the suspect told police he had left a backpack in the kitchen. Once the backpack was located and retrieved, police found a handgun inside, which they gave to Horry County Police for evidence when they arrived on scene.
The suspect is booked at the Horry County Detention Center. No bail has been set yet, as of Aug. 29.
