GEORGETOWN — The suspect in a fatal Georgetown shooting was arrested in Darlington County on Aug. 31.
Stevieon Marsh, 25, of Georgetown, was taken into custody by Darlington County authorities in connection with an Aug. 30 shooting that resulted in the death of 51-year-old Cornelius Smith. City of Georgetown Police Department investigators went to Darlington County to pick him up and bring him back to Georgetown, according to a police department Facebook Post.
“Chief William Pierce wants to thank the community and all of the law enforcement personnel who helped bring this case to a quick resolution,” the post stated.
At about 1 a.m. on Aug. 30, the City of Georgetown Police Department dispatched officers to the 2500 block of Prince Street to investigate a report of a disturbance, according to a press release from the department.
Upon arrival officers found Smith lying in the yard and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken by EMS to Georgetown Memorial Hospital for treatment. Smith died later that afternoon at the Medical University of South Carolina as a result of his injuries.
Marsh was in the Georgetown County Detention Center Sept. 1, being held in connection with a murder charge.
