The Biden Administration wants to measure how traumatized parents were who have been separated from their children by the Trump Administration policy through psychological evaluations. Parents who were separated from their children at the U.S.-Mexico border are being asked to participate in another round of psych evaluations. The request stems from lawsuits filed by migrants seeking compensation from the government after thousands of children were taken from their parents in a policy maligned as inhumane by political and religious leaders. Discussions of settlement with attorneys and the government developed in late 2021. The Justice Department is aware how much mental health evaluations the parents have already participated in but explained how an adult psychology expert found it necessary to seek another opinion. The examination would take nearly 8 hours, 4 for interviews and 4 for emotional and trauma testing.
