Pee Dee Academy’s varsity basketball seasons have been exact opposite to start the 2019—2020 campaign.
But, they both got similar results this past Thursday night at home versus Williamsburg Academy.
It was a slow start for Jerry Coleman’s girls team, but behind Ashley Martin‘s 12 points and eight rebounds, they came out on top.
Lauren Johnson also stepped up with eight points and seven boards in the 29-20 victory.
The Stallions struggled to convert inside, as they were suffocated every time they went to the middle.
The win moves to Golden Eagles to 1-5 overall on the season.
For Kyle Drew’s boys, the season has started fast with two wins over quality opponents.
Last Thursday, the Stallions were in the game for about the first five minutes, then the Golden Eagles took over.
Caleb Oakley kept getting to the basket for inside scores. This opened up the outside shot, which Pee Dee was hitting as well. Connor Garris, Oakley, and Dylan Carter all had the three ball working. Hudson Spivey controlled the point position and the boards. Leading score Cameron Weston found his shot in the second half also, to put the game away.
The final score of 61- 24 had the Golden Eagles at 3-0 on the year. Oakley lead the team in scoring on this night with 18, followed by Weston with 14 and Garris also made double digits with 10 points.
