MURRELLS INLET — The Knights of Columbus Grand Strand Assembly 2107 will hold a remembrance on Sept. 11 to honor “our military men and women, active duty and Veterans from all services, all those who lost their lives on 9-11 and the days that followed and the First Responders in Horry County who continue to sacrifice to keep us (safe).”
The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic School’s Duffy Center, 542 Cypress Ave.
A patriotic concert will take place featuring the Pawleys Island Concert Band, and honors will be rendered to World War II veteran Clarence Tompkins of Surfside Beach. Tompkins is a highly-decorated member of Darby’s Rangers, so named for Brig. Gen. William O. Darby, who led the first Army Rangers during World War II.
The ceremony’s guest speaker will be Horry County Police Chief Joseph Hill. Also featured will be a video message from actor Gary Sinise — notable for his 1994 role as Lt. Dan Taylor in “Forrest Gump” — and recognition from Gov. Henry McMaster.
