Bicyclist accused of shooting BB gun at Georgetown woman’s SUV

GEORGETOWN — An Andrews man was arrested on charge of shooting at a Georgetown woman’s SUV from his bicycle with a BB gun.

Jonathan Phillip Shuler, 29, was arrested Sept. 8 on a charge of malicious damage to property $2,000 or less.

Deputies responded to a call of an individual with a gun on West Virginia Road in Georgetown at about 8:30 a.m. 

The victim was backing her 2012 Dodge Journey out of her driveway on West Virginia Road when she saw a bicyclist wearing a black hoodie, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office report. She heard something strike her vehicle. She saw the bicyclist holding something black in her hands, but could not identify the object.

She pulled the SUV back into a driveway and discovered a dent in the driver’s side door that looked like a bullet hole.

The victim’s mother told deputies she heard a loud bang and went outside, where she saw the suspect in the front yard “with a black hoodie, a long gun, and a brown bicycle with a Crown Royal bag on it.”

Shuler was taken into custody after sheriff’s deputies found Shuler at a relative’s house on Yadkin Avenue. 

According to the report, deputies recovered a MP model BB gun at the relative’s house, which Shuler said he keeps for self-defense. 

McDonald Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown while the suspect was being located.
